Girl with a pigeon

Many years ago, I’d been spending time with this girl, I knew it wasn’t going to go anywhere, and after it was over, I just couldn’t get her out of my head.  The scent of her breath, the taste of her lips, her unexpected impulsiveness and so many other things.  Anyway, I’d got into transcendental meditation, and this one time an image of a girl with a pigeon on a lead floated into my view.  I tried to paint this vision a number of times, and what came to be the final version was intended originally as a sketch but seemed to get at what I was going for, so I worked more on it.  This was the best expression of that vision.  I added other details including pigeons flying freely in the background, a repeated moon motif in the designs on the dress and also in the sky, I devised a landscape setting.  I felt a sort of early renaissance feel was what I wanted to go for.  I quite like this picture, of all the pictures I’ve painted this is probably my favourite and so I used it on the cover of the album ‘Some kind of emptiness’.
